Huge Gold, Silver Haul From Raja

NEW DELHI: The CBI has seized 6 kg of gold worth Rs 1.60 crore and 20 kg silver worth Rs 7.13 lakh from the residences of former Telecom minister A Raja, his relatives, friends and associates.

The ‘ample evidences’ against Raja, his wife and 15 others, could prove the disproportionate assets case against them. The seizures were made during the searches by the CBI at 20 places in Delhi, Chennai, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore on Wednesday.

Interestingly, most of the gold was seized from Raja’s residence at A-33 Gulmohar Park in Delhi. “We have also seized 230 documents of immovable properties, lockers in banks and fixed deposits,” said a senior CBI official.  While the official said that they were still scrutinising the amount of fixed deposits, a source in the agency said that the fixed deposits were worth a few crores.
