Girl Kills Self After Tease and 'Physical Abuse'

Unable to bear the taunts and alleged physical abuse by some young men in her locality, an 18-year old girl died after immolating herself at Baranagar.

BARRACKPORE: Unable to bear the taunts and alleged physical abuse by some young men in her locality, an 18-year old girl died after immolating herself at Baranagar in North 24 Parganas today.

A senior police officer said the girl, who was regularly teased by five youths of her Forward Colony locality in Baranagar town area could not take it any more when she was inappropriately touched by the gang on Friday afternoon as she was walking on the road.

On return the girl did not talk to anybody and later in the evening set herself aflame after locking her inside a room.

She was taken to hospital and died today, the senior officer of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate said adding four persons were arrested in this connection.

Hunt was on for the main accused in the town and adjacent areas of North Kolkata.
