Facebook Post Leads to Eve-teaser's Arrest

NEW DELHI: The Facebook post of a 20-year-old Delhi University student, who was allegedly harassed by a youth in Tilak Nagar area here at around 8 pm on Sunday,  enabled the police to haul up the pervert. The accused has been identified as Sarabjit Singh, a resident of the Paschimpuri.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pushpendra Kumar said the Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 to the girl, a final year English literature student.

The 26-year-old  has been arrested and booked under Sections 354A (punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC, said a senior police official.

Sarabjit’s father Dalip Singh, however, claimed that his son was innocent and was being implicated by the girl for media attention. He also said the girl belonged to the AAP and that she had threatened his son. “She belongs to the AAP and she wants media attention, that’s why she is targeting my son,” said Singh, who lives in Delhi’s Rajauri Garden. Earlier, undeterred by lewd comments of the accused and threats, the girl had uploaded the photograph of the accused on FB, with the post soon going viral.
