Minor Raped on Moving Bus in Assam

GUWAHATI:  In continuing atrocities against women, a 13-year-old Adivasi girl was allegedly gangraped inside a moving bus by its driver and his assistant in Assam.

According to the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), the incident occurred in the state’s Baksa district when the victim was en route to Tezpur from here, on her way to her hometown Behali in Sonitpur district. “She was working as a domestic help here. On Saturday, she fled the house and boarded a bus. After all the other passengers had got off along the way, the driver drove the vehicle to an isolated place. Later, he and his assistant committed the crime,” former AASAA president Raffel Kujur told Express.

Kujur said the victim eventually managed to flee the clutches of  her tormentors on Sunday morning from Atrighat in Baksa where the vehicle was parked and reported the matter to people in an Adivasi village. “When the locals, including AASAA functionaries and the police rushed to the site, they saw the abandoned vehicle, with the accused having made good their escape,” he said.  The  victim was under medical care, Kujur added.

The AASAA condemned the incident.
