RANCHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today announced a three-member committed to look into the CSAT, ending the Opposition protests, which had demanded its withdrawal.
"I have instituted a three-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary, asking it to submit a report within a week," Das said in the House, which had been witnessing uproarious scenes since yesterday with the Opposition demanding withdrawal of the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) for state services.
Das said failure to conduct regular Jharkhand State Public Services examinations for the last 14 years had been "our fault, and not of the students" and his government was committed to hold examinations every year.
The Opposition appeared satisfied with the government's decision to set up the committee after creating ruckus in the first half and forcing two adjournments on the final day of the Monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly.
Earlier in the morning session, the opposition had continued its demand to withdraw introduction of CSAT for state services, forcing two adjournments in the first session on the final day of the monsoon session of Jharkhand Assembly.
After forcing two adjournments and staging a walk out yesterday in protest against the government's nod to introduce CSAT, Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren raked up the issue as soon as the House was convened today with the opposition members trooping into the Well shouting slogans.
Once again admitting his "mistake" in giving the nod during the erstwhile UPA regime, Soren said it should be "corrected" in the interest of the youth.
Taking a dig at the JMM's working president, BJP MLA Radhakrishna Kishore asked Soren to submit a "list of mistakes" so that the state government could "correct them."
Former deputy chief minister and JMM MLA Stephen Marandi, however, sought to turn the table on the previous BJP-led government before Soren took over, alleging the recommendation had been an earlier conspiracy.
Soren also suggested for a House committee headed by Speaker Dinesh Oraon to look into the CSAT issue.
Despite the Speaker saying the Chief Minister would give a statement on CSAT at 3 PM, the Opposition continued the ruckus, forcing him to adjourn the House till 2 PM.
JMM MLA Jagannath Mahto added to the din with his demand to introduce a domicile policy for Jharkhand and wore a shirt with words inscribed in Hindi in support of his demand even as the Speaker asked him to change his shirt.
