Tragedy Averted as Mortar Bomb Found in Samba, Defused

A major tragedy was averted when a live mortar shell was detected, defused near a railway bridge in Samba.

JAMMU: A major tragedy was averted today when a live mortar shell was detected and defused near a railway bridge in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A civilian identified as Pashi Ram noticed a 51 mm mortar shell near the railway over bridge in Nhankechak area of Samba district, a police officer said.

He said that Ram informed the police about the bomb following which they reached the spot and with the help of bomb disposal squad, the police diffused the bomb.

"A major tragedy was averted as the bomb was lying a few meters away from the railway line in Samba," he said.
