PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president demanded  an enhanced relief  of Rs.10,000 to all ration card holders in Puducherry and Karaikal regions of the union territory instead of Rs.4000 announced by the chief minister.

In a statement here today,PPCC President  A Namassivayam MLA today  pointed out the huge loss suffered by agriculturists and said that the relief was announced  calculating on hectare basis and demanded that the compensation be provided on acre basis.

.Namasivayam demanded the immediate waiver of crop loans to the farmers.

He charged that the administration had “cheated” the people whose houses were partially damaged in the rain by excluding them while  calculating the number of houses lost in the rain.He demanded that a sum of Rs.20,000 for pucca houses damaged and Rs.10,000 for huts damaged be provided after a fresh assessment .

Pointing out the sufferings of the poor and middle class people who  could not come out of their houses for  one month on account of the incessant rain and flood, Namasivayam urged the territorial administration to give them two months time to pay their power bills  and refrain from levying  penalty for late payment.
