NEW DELHI: To facilitate transportation of relief materials to flood affected people of Tamil Nadu, India Railways has decided that relief material booked by various government agencies, NGOs and association shall be booked free of cost till December 23.
The decision was taken following request from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to ensure facilitation of relief material reaches affected people in time. However, Railways shall seek reimbursement of the cost of transportation from Central government. The relief material shall be transported free of cost for the period from Dec 9-23.
The conditions put by railways says consignment booked by various government organizations, government aided agencies, NGOs and any other associations and consigned to the District Magistrates of the flood affected district of Tamil Nadu subject to the condition that the relief material so transported shall be distributed amongst the population of the flood affected areas of Tamil Nadu.
It further said that it should be ensured that states where elections are due, no political party or individual takes credit for this transportation.
