Hurriyat Group Meets Basit, Asks Pakistan to Maintain Firmness on J and K

NEW DELHI: On Monday, a Hurriyat delegation met Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit, asking that country to maintain “firmness over its Kashmir policy”.

The High Commission refused to comment and there was no comment from the Indian side. A press release from All Party Hurriyat Conference-led by Syed Ali Geelani said a two-member delegation met Basit and other officials on Monday, to discuss External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Islamabad.

The delegation, comprising of APHC chief organiser Altaf Ahmad Shah and personal secretary to chairman Peer Saifullah, had handed over a message from Geelani to Basit.

According to the release, the message said, “Pakistan should continue to maintain consistency and firmness over its Kashmir policy and play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations committed by Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir on the international forums”.

Speaking to Express, Shah said the Pakistan High Commission had been approached two days ago for an appointment with Basit.
