NEW DELHI: Stating that the central investigating agency is being misused in the same way as it was misused during the Congress rule, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday alleged that the actual purpose of the raid conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was to “find evidences against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal”.
“I am saying it categorically that Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar ji is an excuse, they are actually targeting Kejriwal ji,” claimed Sisodia.
“They searched all files, papers and the office, and questioned people over there; and, when they did not find anything after the day-long raid, the Central Government said it was a raid on the Delhi Principal Secretary’s office,” he alleged.
“Searching files at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and taking some of the files in their custody on Monday evening — what does it all signify?” he asked.
“What does the Central Government want? Was it not a raid on the CMO? Isn’t it a hurdle in the functioning of the Chief Minister? Isn’t it an attempt to discourage officers who are working with Chief Minister Kejriwal?” he questioned.
“I want to ask it categorically that why raids were not conducted when Rajender Kumar was with the education department, where the scam broke out,” Sisodia sought to know.
Earlier, CBI sources claimed that the investigating body has seized foreign currency worth over Rs 3 lakh from Delhi Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar’s residence.
CBI spokesperson on Tuesday flatly denied reports about a search being conducted at the office of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
She said the CBI had registered a case against a senior civil servant of the Government of NCT Delhi and six others on allegations that during the period 2007-14, he along with others abused his official position in awarding contracts from the Delhi Government to a private firm.
She said the investigating body was committed to take action against the corrupt as per law
Chief Minister Kejriwal, earlier in the day, blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “raid” and termed him “coward” and a “psychopath”.
“When Modi couldn't handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice,” said Kejriwal.
