Three Muslim MLAs Want 'Eid-e-Milad' Declared Dry Day

NAGPUR: Three Muslim MLAs today demanded that the Maharashtra government should declare December 24 as a "dry day" owing to "Eid-e-Milad" which marks Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

In separate letters to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the MLAs -- Mohammad Aarif Nasim Khan (Congress), and Waris Pathan and Imtiyaz Jalil (both AIMIM)-- said that consumption of liquor be prohibited across Maharashtra on the occasion.

"It (December 24) should be declared as dry day," Naseem Khan said in a statement today.
