NEW DELHI: Delhi Traffic Police is all set to chart out an action plan for Delhi government's odd-even scheme in the city, with the notification for implementing the plan due on Monday.
"We are awaiting the notification but implementing the action plan wouldn't take much time. All that is needed to be done is that the present traffic officials shall have to be briefed, especially with regard to the various exemptions, and provisions of Motor Vehicles Act under which the scheme has been accommodated," Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander today said.
"Once the notification is received, senior traffic officers shall be briefed and they will be handed over copies of a simplified list, in connection with the provisions and exemptions, which they shall have to distribute among the officials on the field," he said.
The scheme, set to roll out from January 1 for 15 days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles based on their registration numbers. Apart from this, the e-challan system has to be modified in order to accommodate the scheme, for which the matter needs to be discussed with a technical team. However, that is also not expected to take much time, an official said.
There is no issue on our part as far as the implementation, which has received all necessary approvals by now, is concerned, the official added. VIPs, women drivers, CNG-certified vehicles, two-wheelers and those carrying the differently-abled are among the 25 categories which will be exempted from the scheme, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today.
Violators would attract a penalty of Rs 2,000, he told reporters at his residence here while listing out those who would fall out of the ambit of the scheme. The exempted entities include vehicles of President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Governors, Chief Justice of India, Lok Sabha Speaker and Union Ministers.
SPG protectees, vehicles of Leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, judges of Supreme Court and Delhi High Court will not be covered under the scheme.
Kejriwal said the scheme has received all the necessary approvals and a notification for its implementation would be issued on Monday.
