NEW DELHI: BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi landed in controversy after her campaign assistant Narendra Tandon resigned from the party after accusing her of adopting a ‘dictatorial attitude’. But in the evening, he withdrew his resignation letter which he had sent to BJP national president Amit Shah.
While the party is struggling to tide over differences and dissent among state BJP leaders, in a letter to Shah, Tandon said he could not stand ‘constant dictation by Bedi and claimed that her personal staff insulted him and it was becoming “difficult to work with her”.
Tandon, who was a former secretary of the party’s state unit and a permanent invitee to Delhi BJP’s executive committee, was unhappy with Bedi’s style of working, directing him and other party members.
As soon as he resigned, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and party spokesperson Harish Kurana launched a scathing attack on him, saying that Tandon was doing drama. Upadhyay said Tandon’s resignation letter had been accepted by the party’s senior leadership.
“He has not resigned for the first time, this is the third time. There is no conflict within the party,” Kurana said. However, Tandon withdrew his resignation later in front of Shah, saying that “it was an emotional decision to quit the BJP”. Sources said a number of BJP leaders had persuaded Tandon to withdraw his resignation as it was affecting the party’s image ahead of the polls.
