GUWAHATI: Three hardcore militants of NDFB (Songbijit) were arrested today during a joint operation by Army and police in Manas Reserve Forest of Assam's Chirang district. NDFB(S) engineered the massacre of 81 persons last December in the state.
One 7.65 mm pistol, two hand grenades and a large quantity of ammunition and other war-like stores were seized during the operation conducted by the troops of Army's Red Horns Division and Assam Police, a defence release said.
One of the apprehended insurgents was identified as Ringsar Basumatary who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a businessman in March/April 2013 and other cases of extortion.
The operation will further lower the morale of the extremist outfit, which as of now is in a decimated state and is making efforts to rise to prominence by planning to carry out subversive activities, the release added.
