KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday asked the people of Delhi to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi's assembly election.

"My request to all of you in Delhi to please vote for AAP," she tweeted. "For the greater need of the country and development in Delhi."

The AAP led by former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Bharatiya Janata Party are the main contenders for power in Saturday's election for the 70-member Delhi assembly.

Banerjee's appeal comes amid her strained relations with the BJP in West Bengal as well as the party's national leadership and the BJP-led central government.
