NC-PDP Verbal Firefight Before Polls

SRINAGAR:Barely a day before the Jammu and Kashmir Rajya Sabha elections on Saturday, the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP and Omar Abdullah’s NC got into a war of words over secularism.  “Omar Abdullah’s sentiment for secularism appears only when the personal stakes of NC and the Congress are at stake,” PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhter said.   Taking a dig at Omar, Akhter said, “Where was this secularism when Afzal Guru was sent to the gallows without the opportunity to approach the Supreme Court or meet his family? That was the worst communal card that the Congress played and the NC was an equal partner in the denial of human rights.”
