Court Grants Bail to Dawood's Aide Parveen in Extortion Case

MUMBAI: A local court today granted bail to an alleged aide of the fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, arrested in an extortion case earlier this week.

"The Esplanade (magistrate) court granted bail to Tariq Parveen who had been arrested on Monday," said a police officer.

According to crime branch, last November Parveen called a builder in suburban Juhu and allegedly demanded money and a flat. He also asked the builder to meet him at the office of another builder.

During the meeting, Parveen allegedly threatened the builder with dire consequences if he did not pay up, after which the latter approached the police. Parveen was arrested and remanded in police custody till Friday.

As the police sought extension of custody today, Parveen's lawyer opposed it. The court first remanded him to judicial custody and later granted him bail.
