WB Governor K N Tripathi lauded the government for its effort in bringing down the Maternal Mortality Ratio from 145 to 117 per lakh live births.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today lauded the state government for its effort in bringing down the Maternal Mortality Ratio from 145 to 117 per lakh live births.

"From just six sick new born care units (SNCU) in May 2011, the state now has 48 functioning SNCUs, which are playing a major role in reducing infant mortality and morbidity. There was not a single sick neonatal stabilisation unit (SNSU) in May 2011. Now 280 have set up and will be operational by March 2015," Tripathi said while addressing the opening day of Budget session in the West Bengal state Assembly.

"With an increase in the number of functioning delivery points to 626, the maternal mortality ratio has shown a remarkable reduction to 117 per lakh live births from 145," Tripathi said.
