NEW DELHI: After a recent round of meeting of Protection Review Group (PRG) and Security Categorisation Committee (SCC) in the Home Ministry, the Centre has decided to scale down the security cover of three former Home Ministers - P Chidambaram, Sushilkumar Shinde and Buta Singh - from Z Plus to Z category.

The meeting which follows the procedures envisaged in the top secret “Yellow Book” also ordered to downgrade the security cover extended to 1984 anti-Sikh riots-tainted Congress leaders Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler from Z Plus to Z category.

The Yellow Book is a secret document containing details on security arrangement for individuals and is referred while withdrawing, upgrading or downgrading security of central protectees.

According to sources, the decision to scale down the security cover of three former union home ministers  is as per the laid-down norms as they were given the Z Plus security cover by virtue of their positional perceived threat.
