NEW DELHI: Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who was in the thick of storm during the winter session of parliament over her controversial remarks, has been given VIP security, official sources said
Jyoti, who is a minister of state in food processing ministry, had been accorded "Y" category security according to a decision taken by the home ministry, the sources said.
Y category entails security cover of 11 personnel.
Jyoti, who is an MP from Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur, had made controversial remarks at a Bharatiya Janata Party election campaign rally in Delhi and later expressed regret over her comments. The comments had led to the opposition disrupting proceedings to demand she be sacked.
