Sharad Not Let Into Gandhi Smriti as PM Was Inside It: JD(U)

NEW DELHI: JD(U) President Sharad Yadav was today allegedly not allowed to enter Gandhi Smriti by security personnel because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was inside it, inviting sharp comments from the party which termed it most "un-Gandhian".

JD(U) spokesperson K C Tyagi said it was "unfortunate" that Yadav, a long believer in the principles of the apostle of peace, was not allowed to pay his homage at the memorial of Gandhi for security reasons.

"Yadav is a parliamentarian and a noted personality. He has been paying his tributes at Gandhi Smriti on the Mahatma's death anniversary for the last 30 years. We strongly condemn such an arbitrary exercise of power.

"Gandhiji himself never let security come in the way of people mingling with him. And now this culture of VIP security has denied a well-known person from offering his respects at his memorial. It is so un-Gandhian," he told PTI.

Gandhi Smriti has been built at the place when the Mahatma was shot dead in 1948.
