Delhi Police Constable Shot at by AIR Guard

A Delhi Police constable was shot at and injured by a security guard deployed at the All India Radio office.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police constable was shot at and injured by a security guard deployed at the All India Radio office (AIR) in north Delhi after his car rammed into the office gate in the wee hours.

The constable identified as Ankit Kumar was allegedly driving in an inebriated state, said a senior Delhi Police Official. "Ankit Kumar was shot at by a security personnel with Nagaland Police after his car crashed into AIR's locked gate and entered the premises.

"The security guard had presumed the car occupants to be terrorists and thus shot the driver. The incident happened at around 3 AM," said the official. Police said Kumar's friend was also with him in the car when the mishap took place.

"Kumar was driving in an inebriated condition. He received a bullet on the left side of his chest and was rushed to LNJP Hospital. His condition is now stable," said the official. A case has been registered against Kumar at the Timarpur Police Station.
