Khap to Give Aid to Farmer Children

CHANDIGARH: In an unprecedented move, Chaubisee Sarvkhap Panchayat at Meham, the oldest and most powerful khap in Haryana, has passed a resolution to provide the children of farmers with reservations in educational institutions and job sectors and to give pension to farmers on the lines of ex-servicemen, since the farmers too were battling the odds to feed the country.

The khap passed the resolution on Friday saying while the children of the Armymen get reservations in jobs and educational institutions thus securing their career, the children of farmers have nothing to rely on. The government should extend the same kind of reservation to the children of farmers so that their career is also secured, the Panchayat said.

The khap also demanded that the word ‘family’ in the Land Acquisition Bill be clearly defined. If a father has three sons and if one of them gets a job after government acquires the land, then how are the other two supposed to survive, the khap wondered.
