CBI Team in Bhopal, Begins Vyapam Probe

NEW DELHI:  A few days after the Supreme Court handed over Madhya Pradesh’s Vyapam scam case to the CBI, a team of 40 sleuths of the premier investigative agency reached Bhopal and started a probe on Monday.

The CBI sleuths met police officials and discussed the case with Special Task Force (STF) officers Kamal Maurya and Rajesh Chandel for almost three hours. The STF officers handed over some documents related to the investigation to the CBI sleuths.

Sources said the STF members apprised the CBI sleuths of the number of cases and the scam-linked deaths they had been probing.  Initially the STF registered 55 cases, which went up to 125 cases. Around 2,000 people have been arrested so far and 500 others are still absconding. Governor Ram Naresh Yadav has also been named in the admission-and-recruitment scam.
