14 Rescued; One Held for Trafficking

Fourteen persons, including a girl and four minors, have been rescued while they were being allegedly trafficked to Goa and a man was arrested from Kamrup (Rural) district in this connection today, police said.

RANGIYA: Fourteen persons, including a girl and four minors, have been rescued while they were being allegedly trafficked to Goa and a man was arrested from Kamrup (Rural) district in this connection today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Rangiya station who detained the boys and the girl.

RPF also arrested the man, Kamal Daimary, who was allegedly taking them to Bengaluru enroute to Goa, Rangiya SDPO Tankeswar Gogoi said here.

Daimary and the group were waiting at Rangiya railway station to board the Guwahati-Bengalore Express.

Daimary was involved in taking youths from the state for employment in other parts of the country for the last 10 years, Gogoi said.

The rescued boys and the girl would be handed over to their guardians who have been informed, he added.

The youths mostly hailed from the tea garden areas of Sonitpur, Udalguri, Mazbat, Dhekiajuli and Behali areas.
