Second Defamation Case Filed Against Kejriwal for 'Thulla' Remark

NEW DELHI: One more Delhi Police constable today filed a criminal defamation case in a court here against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his 'thulla' remark, a slang to refer to policemen.

The complaint was filed by a constable, posted at Lajpat Nagar police station here, who claimed that he was very much mentally disturbed and felt very insulted and defamed by Kejriwal's remark.

"If a word like 'thulla' is used by an eminent personality like the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to refer to personnel of Delhi Police, then the general public would too have no respect or regard for police personnel who dedicate their entire lives to maintain law and order in Delhi," constable Ajay Kumar Taneja said.

He claimed to have called the office and residence of Kejriwal and also on the helpline numbers to talk to him but there was no "positive response".

"That due to the acute agony and being mentally hurt by the attitude of Kejriwal towards Delhi Police, the complainant was unable to concentrate on his job as he was very much disturbed," his plea filed through advocate L N Rao said.

He also claimed to have lodged a complaint at Lajpat Nagar police station under section 500 (defamation) of IPC.

He said that Kejriwal is liable to be prosecuted for wilfully committing offences punishable under section 500 and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) of IPC.

This is the second complaint filed by a Delhi police constable on the issue. On Wednesday, constable Harvinder posted at Govind Puri police station had filed a criminal defamation complaint in a court here.

In his recent interview, Kejriwal had talked about the AAP government's "constraints" in ensuring effective functioning of the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Police Commissioner B S Bassi had hinted his displeasure over the use of word 'thulla' by Kejriwal.
