KOLKATA: A “Clean India, Green India” camp for children organised by the Army at Happy valley in Shillong in Meghalaya drew to a close on Tuesday. The 5-day ‘Eastern Command Adventure Camp 2015’ was organised by 58 Gorkha Training Centre, according to a Ministry of Defence communique on Wednesday.
Sixty-two children belonging to defence personnel participated in the adventure camp, whose ‘Clean India-Green India’ theme underscored the need for the participation of today’s youth in saving the environment and nation building.
The children were made to undergo a gruelling schedule, which included jungle trek, camping, survival in jungle, rock climbing, navigation, treasure hunt, first aid and life-saving techniques.
Personality development activities such as debate, quiz, painting, music and dance were also organised. The adventure camp culminated with a camp fire on Tuesday night.
