In order to keep India's most expensive city clean, Maharashtra government has now come up with an anti-spitting law under which the offenders might be fined upto Rs.5000.
According to the law, the monetary punishment service will be combined with mandatory community service.
Any person who violates the law for the first time will be fined Rs 1000 and will have to provide social service at a public hospital or a givernment office.
While second time offenders will have to pay Rs 3,000 and three-day community service. Repeat offenders will be fined Rs 5,000 and five-days of community service.
It is expected that the law will help banning tobacco, gums, etc. in public places.
