MUMBAI: Lalit Modi’s ‘mentor’ in cricket, Sharad Pawar on Wednesday revealed that he had advised the former to return to India and face the law. He had also assured Lalit that he would talk to the government to ensure that he got a fair trial if he were to return. He said he ran into Lalit around a month ago in London while having lunch at a restaurant. “He was also willing to return. He told me that he feared his passport would be impounded again if he were to return,” Pawar said. However,  Pawar denied that he had made any commitment to Lalit upon his return. Pawar, confirmed that there was a threat to Modi’s life. “Lalit said there was a risk to his life. His fear was based on a report by the Mumbai Police. In the past, I had checked with the police. There seemed to be substance to the fears,” he said.
