BJP Hypocritical in Lalit Modi Row: Brinda Karat

THOOTHUKUDI: The recent Lalit Modi row had exposed the true hypocritical face of BJP alleged CPI(M) Politburo Member Brinda Karat, at Kovilpatti, on Monday.

Speaking to media persons she claimed that before coming to power BJP had promised transparency and accountability in government but in the last one year it had not followed its own words and its hypocrisy is exposed in the Lalit Modi issue. "What face will Narendra Modi show to people for the hypocrisy" questioned Brinda Karat.

She also alleged that External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, and Rajastan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, had shown undue favours for a person having 16 cases filed against him by Finance Ministry and it is highly condemnable claimed Brinda Karat. They must resign from their posts and Lalit Modi should be arrested immediately demanded Brinda Karat.

She also condemned RSS leaders for making a controversial remark that Lalit Modi was an Indian and hence Sushma had helped him. She also questioned the nationalism of RSS and said that "only God should save India from such Nationalists".

She also quipped that "Namo is supporting LaMo(Lalit Modi)". She also raised doubts about the politics behind popularising Yoga and alleged that government should not promote Yoga for the sake of world record. "Even I practice Yoga but it has nothing to do with politicisation" said Brinda Karat.

She further alleged that Union government had reduced funds for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(MGNREGA) and no work had been allotted for the women. Coupled with the problem is the problem of rain scarcity and both had ruined the village economy and hence farmers were pushed to commit suicide claimed Brinda Karat.

"Union Ministers must visit the places where works under MGNREGA is carried out rather visiting foreign countries to find out the ground level truth" said Brinda Karat while criticising the activities of BJP in promoting the soft power image of India. The provisions of MGNREGA such as presence of water, shed for having lunch and creche for children are not followed by the government claimed Brinda Karat.

She had visited Kovilpatti to attend the second state conference of Tamilnadu Association for the Rights of All Type of Differently-Abled Caregivers (TARATDAC) to be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday.
