Large Quantity of Packaged Water Bearing Fake ISI Mark Seized

An action under BIS Act 1986 has been initiated against the manufacturer for offence punishable up to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 or both.

PUNE: A city company engaged in manufacturing of packaged drinking water was raided by the officials of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) here in which a "very large quantity" of the product was seized.

"BIS raided Sohail Enterprises in Kondhava area of Pune and seized a very large quantity of 20 litre 'Pet Jars and Cool Jars' of packaged water with spurious BIS standard mark (ISI) with brand name "Re--Once" without valid licence," a BIS release said today.

An action under BIS Act 1986 has been initiated against the manufacturer for offence punishable up to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 or both, it said.

Pune BIS branch head Prasad Reddy, who issued the release, also urged the public to inform about any such irregularities to the bureau, which works under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
