RANGIYA (Assam): At least one hundred people were taken ill after eating 'prasad' at a public Namghar (place of worship for Vaishnavites) at Maukuchi, an official said today.
The people ate 'prasad' offered on Saturday and started complaining since yesterday, Rangiya Sub Divisional Officer Mukut Phukan said.
"The people complained of uneasiness since yesterday but the situation turned serious this morning when they started vomiting," he said.
While most of the people were being treated at local hospital in Rangiya, some were shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital and the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre, Phukan said.
"At present, the condition of all the affected people is under control. We have also set up a health camp in the village for check-ups," he said. The SDO said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
