LG-CM Face-off: AAP Lashes Out at Jung, BJP

NEW DELHI: As the war between the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung over appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary esclated, AAP today lashed out at the latter, alleging that he was not acting as per the provisions of Constitution and the Government of National Capital Territory (GNCT) Act.

Alleging that Jung was undermining the authority of an elected government, the party said BJP was trying run Delhi through backdoors.

"The LG is not acting as per the provisions of the Constitution, GNCT Act and Transaction of Business Rules. Under Article 239 AA and TBR, an elected government has the right to choose the Chief Secretary. He (Jung) is undermining a democratically elected government," party spokesperson

Deepak Bajpai said.

"After facing a humiliating defeat, BJP is trying to run the affairs of the government through backdoors," he alleged.

In a jibe at Jung, party leader Kumar Vishwas said the war cannot be won like this.

"Ek aadmi ko sach mein kaam karte dekh kar aap ke mann mein kitni khalbali hai saheb? Aise "jung" nahi jeet paoge (Seeing one person work for the truth you are getting worked up. War (jung) cannot be won like this)," he tweeted.

A full-blown war erupted today between Jung and Kejriwal with both challenging each other's authority over the administration following a bitter confrontation on the appointment of an acting Chief Secretary for 10 days.

Hours after Gamlin took charge as acting Chief Secretary despite being asked not to do so by Kejriwal, the fight flared up as he shot off a strongly-worded letter to Jung, asking him to work "within the confines" of Constitution and alleging that he was trying to take over the administration.

The Lt Governor hit back at Kejriwal blaming him for the delay in appointment of an acting Chief Secretary and revoked Kejriwal's order transferring Principal Secretary in Services Department Arindam Majumdar, who issued the appointment letter to Gamlin at the instructions from Jung.
