Bharti Seeks President Intervention Into FIR Issue

NEW DELHI: A day after accusing Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of threatening him with an FIR during a DDA meeting, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti today urged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to take up the issue with the President and said none of the party legislators can work in such a "vitiated" environment.
In the letter, Bharti also demanded making public the "recording" of yesterday's meeting at Raj Niwas so that the truth comes out. Jung's office had already denied the allegations by Bharti.
Yesterday, Bharti had alleged that Jung had "threatened" to register an FIR against him after he raised the issue of changing the land use norms of a plot of land in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in Central Delhi to facilitate its allotment to BJP, during a DDA meeting.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had already opposed decision by the DDA, saying the land in question was earlier reserved for a school.
"Since the issue involved larger interest pertaining to education, I kept on requesting the LG to allow me to speak on the issue. When I did not stop speaking and kept demanding for a feasibility report which justified such a land use change, he (LG) threatened me with an FIR," Bharti alleged in the letter.
The incident, Bharti said conclusively "demystified" police excesses towards AAP MLAs, leaders and volunteers.
"I earnestly request you to take necessary actions, including taking up the issue with President of India because in such vitiated environment, none of our MLAs will be able to do justice to the hopes for which people of Delhi have given us a historic verdict rejecting BJP and Congress," he said.
