NEW DELHI:A high threat perception ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign in Bihar is likely to bring down the number of his rallies. Security and Intelligence officials, who are holding back-to-back meetings on a daily basis, indicated that the PM is likely to address just 10-12 rallies and not 20 as planned earlier.

Modi will address a rally on October 2 in Banka and another in Lakhisarai on October 5. On October 8, he is likely to address a meeting in Munger considered a Naxal-affected district.

Though Naxal firepower is not a major concern, glitches in local security coordination like at Modi’s 2013 rally in Patna, remain a serious issue. An official, however, mentioned that Advance Security Liaison drill with the Bihar Police has improved and it was evident at recent rallies that Modi had addressed in Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Saharsa and Bhagalpur. Coordination with local police is required for mine sweep, threat identification and preparing elaborate plan for access control with three-tier security ring.
