BJP Accuses Omar of Demeaning Speaker's Office

Gupta expressed regret over the proceedings of the ongoing Autumn-session of the Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.

JAMMU: The BJP, a partner in the ruling coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, today accused the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of "demeaning" the Speaker's office.

"Omar Abdullah has had his guns trained on the Speaker all this week accusing him as biased. It is both shocking as well as shameful that the NC legislator has been demeaning the office of the Speaker without any sense of discretion", BJP state spokesperson Arun Kumar Gupta said.

Omar had accused the speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly Kavinder Gupta of being bias who was "throttling" the voice of the opposition in the assembly.

Gupta expressed regret over the proceedings of the ongoing Autumn-session of the Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Beerwah Legislator should not disrespect the chair of the speaker", Gupta said.

Adding he said "It is surprising that Omar Abdullah, who belongs to the party that has ruled the state for the longest time, has not practised propriety while either addressing the Speaker in the Assembly or for that matter disrespecting the stature of Speaker's chair."

He said that it has not happened before that the speaker's authority was undermined with a perverse accusation of association with a particular organization.
