NEW DELHI: With Akhilesh Yadav government invoking NSA against its MLA Ajay Rai, Congress today alleged that the action has been taken at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha.
"The action has been taken as Rai was raising questions about the promises made by the Prime Minister to the electorate," party General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry told reporters. Claiming that the Samajwadi party government was hand-in-glove with the BJP, he alleged that the action has been taken at the behest of the Prime Minister and the ruling party at the Centre.
He accused the SP government of singling out Rai in the wake of the recent protests in the city in which local BJP workers and leaders, as also those of the Congress, had participated. "The action shows that Uttar Pradesh has a proxy government of the BJP," he alleged.
