Over 1,600 MT Pulses Worth Rs 15 Crore Seized in Thane

THANE: Huge stocks of pulses worth Rs 15 crore, which were hoarded in three gowdown here, were today seized by Police and Supplies department.

Local police and Supplies department has been conducting raids to tighten the noose around hoarders in the district. In the raid carried out at the three godowns in Shil- Daighar area, around 1,650 MT stock of pulses worth Rs 15 crore was impounded, Thane Commissionerate PRO Gajanan Kabdule said in an official release.

Offences have been registered under relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and for violation of government order issued on October 18, he said.

Those booked, include Pawan Agarwal of Saraswati Pulses, Amit Jadhav of Shlok traders and Dhaval food products Ltd, and Rahit Khilwani of Ashirwad Agr.

The seized stocks include Russia chickpeas, whole tur, Australia chickpeas. Prices of the agri commodities have shot up due to fall in output by two million tonnes in 2014-15 on deficient and untimely rain.
