BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Sunday reached out to the farmers, who recently witnessed a drought-like situation and assured them adequate compensation.
“There is a drought situation. The kharif crops have been destroyed. The government is standing with farmers. We have decided that the farmers whose crops have been destroyed will be given compensation,” he said.
“Estimate of Rs. 3,000 crore is allotted to compensate farmers suffering due to drought especially for the destruction of kharif crops and soyabean crops,” he added.
Chauhan said the government has decided to pay their interests for a year of their loans.
“We are claiming the ‘Phasal Bima Yojana’. And through that we hope to gather the same amount. We will add the two amounts and compensate for their (farmers) losses,” he added.
Chauhan further informed the farmers that the initial cost for the exchange of old transformers have been reduced to a 10 percent from the earlier 50 percent.
He requested the farmers not to worry and assured all assistance from the government.
“Farmers must not worry. If they are worried about their daughter’s wedding, they must not. The Government will help them. If they face any other problem then they must let us know,” he said.
“We have reduced the budget for all other sectors by 15 percent this time just to help the farmers with this money,” he added.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia while expressing concern over the drought situation in Madhya Pradesh alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the state has failed to make serious efforts in providing relief to the farmers.
