NEW DELHI: The Union Human Resource Development Ministry on Sunday asserted that non-NET programme would continue. The decision comes after students protested outside the UGC office for four days against its review committee’s decision to discontinue the non-NET fellowships in central universities to M Phil and Ph D students.

On receiving a memorandum from a delegation comprising student representatives, HRD Minister Smriti Irani accepted their plea on continuing non-NET fellowships, extending it to state universities as well. “Irrespective of the recommendations of the review committee, all existing and continuing fellowships, NET and non-NET, would be continued,” the ministry said.
