NEW DELHI: Alleged activist of Lashker-e-Taiba Showkat Ahmed Bhat, who was arrested in connection with last month's Udhampur attack, today underwent a lie detector test here during which questions were asked to him about his association with the Pakistan-based terror outfit.
36-year-old Bhat, who hails from Kashmir, was taken to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) this morning and the process of a lie detector test began from 11 AM which continued till late in the evening, official sources said.
Bhat was arrested after his name cropped up during the interrogation of Mohammed Naved Yakub, the lone terrorist nabbed by villagers after the August 5 terror strike on a BSF convoy in Udhampur of Jammu region in which two security personnel were killed. One militant identified as Mohammed Noman alias Momin was killed in retaliatory fire.
Besides Naved, Bhat's involvement was also alleged by another person Khursheed Ahmed, suspected to be a sympathiser of the terror group and arrested by NIA for allegedly ferrying the terrorists from Srinagar to Jammu on two occasions.
Bhat is alleged to be involved in bringing Naved and three other Pakistani terrorists, who had crossed over to India from 'Noori post' in Gulmarg sector of North Kashmir to Tral in South Kashmir.
The NIA had approached a special court yesterday seeking permission to conduct polygraph test on Bhat and had also annexed a letter written by the accused giving his consent to the probe agency for conducting the scientific test.
NIA had said the test was important as it would help in unearthing a larger conspiracy of the banned terror group in the Valley.
The agency also contented that the accused was giving inconsistent statements during his interrogation which is hampering the probe in the case.
