Congress MLA Booked for Thrashing Construction Supervisor

KORBA: A Congress legislator has been booked for allegedly thrashing a supervisor of a contractor involved in the construction of a government building in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district.

A case was registered against Brihaspat Singh, the MLA from Ramanujganj constituency, yesterday evening based on a complaint of the victim Ramanath Kushwaha, Balrampur police station's SHO A R Rathore said. According to the complaint, Rajesh Singh was given the contract for construction of the building of District Panchyat Resource Centre (DPRC) at Semli Mod area.

On September 10, when the contractor's supervisor Kushwaha was monitoring the work, the MLA reached there and asked him to stop the construction. However, the supervisor refused to do so and continued with the construction following which the MLA allegedly abused him and hit him with his shoes, the SHO said.

The complaint was verified and subsequently the MLA was booked under IPC sections 294  (obscene act in any public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (b) (criminal intimidation) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards), he said.

Further probe is on in this connection, he added. The MLA was unavailable for comment on the issue.
