Ghaziabad Police Asked to Constitute Anti-extortion Cell

In the wake of rising incidents of crime and extortion, police have been directed to constitute a anti-extortion cell.

GHAZIABAD: In the wake of rising incidents of crime and extortion in the region here, district police have been directed to constitute a specialised anti-extortion cell.

The district police have been instructed by Inspector General (Meerut Zone) Alok Sharma to constitute an anti-extortion cell by September 15, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ghaziabad, Dharmenra Singh told PTI.

In a letter to police authorities of the district, the IG has asked to update him along with the state police headquarters in Lucknow about the formation of the specialised cell by Tuesday, Singh said.

Several incidents of extortion, especially from the traders community, have been reported in the past in the vicinity of the district.
