NEW DELHI: Online shopping sites have been a hit among the upwardly mobile users. Now, they can buy goats too. Sounds strange, but its true. As Bakrid festival is around the corner, sacrificial goats are up for sale on online websites like OLX and Quickr. The price tag may be as high as Rs five lakhs per goat.
While, traditional cattle fares and famous Bakra Bazaars (goat markets) during the time of Bakra Eid in India may still be popular, the online sale is attracting eyeballs.
Sample this: Raja, a healthy male, Chandwala black goat from Pune, Maharashtra, who is two and a half years old is up for sale. This advertisement has been put up by his care taker on the online shopping site OLX.in with a price tag of Rs five lakhs only.
Similar to Raja there are dozens of goats for online shopping on sites like Quickr, just 10 days before Bakra Eid in India.
“Some of my friends suggested me to do this and the results are not bad I have already got a few calls since the last two days the ad has been up. I am doing this for the first time and it is easy in a way as now I do not have to go to Bakra Bazaar which is a tedious work” Nivrutti Shinde told Express over phone. He was taking care of the tall black goat till now.
Shinde is a farmer himself he was waiting for the right call and is ready to settle for the right price.As for the high price Shinde explains it is the half moon on the head of the animals which makes it prime further age and the black color are additional features which are not to be found easily as per Shinde.
Like most other products sold online, goats are also cheaper here than through offline retail channels.
The goats are available on OLX for as low as Rs 1,000 and go up to Rs 5,00,000 depending on size and breed. Quikr has goats starting from Rs 10,000 and above. These goats vary in shape and size, and pictures are available for reference before buying.
The process is simple if you are a customer you just register with the site and make an account after that call up the seller fix a time and go to see the “product” after which if your are like what you see you do the transaction.
The website offers a range of goats with special prints on them specially for Eid.As it is online it is not are specific sellers from Hyderabad,Banglore, Gorakhpur all are on one platform offering goats like Kashmiri, Khassi Jamnapari and also four teeth goats.
