23 kg Heroin Worth Rs 115 Crore Seized From Tehkala Border

A joint team of BSF and Customs officials recovered 23 kg heroin worth Rs 115 crore in the international market at Tehkala border outpost of Amritsar sector, an official said today.

JALANDHAR: A joint team of BSF and Customs officials recovered 23 kg heroin worth Rs 115 crore in the international market at Tehkala border outpost of Amritsar sector, an official said today.

"The joint team during a special operation late last night observed some people throwing packets from the other side of the border," BSF Deputy Inspector General of Punjab Frontier R S Kataria said.

When challenged, they attacked the jawans, who fired in self-defence. The smugglers then fled the spot, he said.

The jawans searched the place and seized 23 packets of heroin, each containing one kg of the drug, valuing Rs 115 crore in international market and a mobile phone with Pakistani SIM card was recovered form there, the Deputy IG said.

The senior official said that till now this year the BSF recovered more than 192 kg heroin along the along the International Border area from across the state.
