Bomb Hoax at Burdwan

BURDWAN: An alarm by some students of a coaching centre in the Joramandir area of Burdwan that there is a time bomb planted at a godown sent the district police into a tizzy today, which later on turned out to be a hoax alarm.

Students of a coaching centre on the first floor of a motor parts spare shop in the area first spotted a device attached to the door of the godown with a time piece on it along with a beeper and rushed to a nearby club and informed the members about it.

The police was alerted soon and a large contingent of police along with bomb squad officers from the district DIB rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. After a thorough examination, the device was found to be a toy, said district police superintendent Kunal Agarwal. "There was temporary panic in the area, but the device was found to be a toy. The owner of the godown, Madhusudan Dutta, has informed us that CCTV cameras were intalled around the godown. We are not taking the matter lightly and will scan the CCTV footage and try to locate the person involved in the mischief," said Agarwal.

No one has been arrested so far in connection with the incident and investigations were on, he added.
