Lawyers Go on Strike Against Attack by Religious Leader's Followers

The Bar Association has been assured full protection and arrest of culprits within three days, SP Mathura said.

MATHURA: Members of Bar Association of Mathura today went on a strike in protest against the attack allegedly by the followers of a religious leader in which six persons, including president of an adovcate's forum, were injured.

"The step was taken by the advocates in protest against the attack by the followers of splinter group of a religious leader in Mathura tehsil office yesterday in which six persons including Hakim Singh, President of Tehsil Adhivakta Forum were injured," a member of the Bar Association said.

The strike was later called off after police assured protection to the lawyers and arrest of the accused within three days.

"The Bar Association has been assured full protection and arrest of culprits within three days," SP City Mukul Dwivedi said.

The one-day lawyer's strike caused inconvenience to the litigants.

Few members of Lekhapal Association had also received injuries in the attack but they decided not to file an FIR, instead they have given a "strike" call from tomorrow.

Confirming that Lekpals will be on strike from tomorrow, ADM A K Avasthi said "the members of the Association met me today and has given notice for the strike from Wednesday."
