Amitabh Rubbishes Reports on 'Incredible India' Brand Ambassador

MUMBAI: Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday rubbished reports claiming that his name for the Brand Ambassador for the 'Incredible India' campaign could be put on hold due to his name featuring in the Panama Papers.

In an official statement, Bachchan stated that he has not been formally approached for being the Brand Ambassador.

“There have been queries from the media regarding my being Brand Ambassador for 'Atulya Bharat'. I wish to state that I have not been formally approached for this position. The speculation of the media regarding its discontinuance is, therefore, not relevant as far as I am concerned,” he said.

Earlier, a leading daily had claimed that Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were directors in companies in Panama.

Bachchan further said that he continues to get queries from the media on Panama Papers, and requested the latter to direct the queries to the government.

“I would humbly request them to kindly direct these to the GOI where I, as a law abiding citizen have already sent, and shall continue to send, my responses. I stand by my earlier statement on the ‘misuse of my name’ in the matter and in any event the press reports do not disclose any illegal act committed by me,” he said.
