Three JMM MLAs Taken into Preventive Custody

The three MLAs were rounded up while they were staging a street corner play to mobilise support for tomorrow's bandh.

CHAIBASA: Three JMM MLAs from West Singhbhum district were tonight taken into preventive custody in view of the Jharkhand bandh called by the party in protest against the domicile policy recently notified by the state government.

The bandh was called even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit Jamshedpur in adjoining East Singhbhum district tomorrow, where he will address a function organised on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj diwas at JRD Tata sports complex.

"We have taken three JMM MLAs - Dipak Birua (Chaibasa constituency), Niral Purty (Majhgaon) and Shashibhusan Samad (Chakradharpur) along with 16 party workers into preventive custody in view of the bandh called by them," Superintendent of Police, Michael Raj S told PTI.

The three MLAs were rounded up while they were staging a street corner play to mobilise support for tomorrow's bandh.

JMM has described the policy as anti-Jharkhand and not in the interest of adivasis and moolvasis.

Meanwhile, security arrangement has been tightened in the steel city of Jamshedpur in view of the PM s visit as well as the bandh.

Police has made it clear that it would deal strictly with those indulging in violence on the pretext of bandh.
