NEW DELHI: BJP will target the Congress especially former finance minister P Chidambaram on issues of Ishrat Jahan affidavit, and Aircel Maxis deal in the parliament. While, AgustaWestland deal would be the major ammunition for the ruling party to counter Sonia Gandhi-led Congress.
The issues came up during discussion during BJP’s parliamentary party meeting attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, ministers and MPs. Senior BJP leaders including Shah, Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley separately strategised in order to corner Congress which was raising the Uttarakhand issue in the parliament.
The party will also demand a discussion on the Aircel Maxis scam, in which the role of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has been questioned. BJP leader Anurag Thakur will be raising the issue in Lok Sabha, while Bhupender Yadav will bring it up in Rajya Sabha.
Chidambaram is also likely to come under attack by the ruling party in connection with the affidavits filed in the Ishrat Jahan case. Chidambaram has been accused of changing the affidavit to conceal Ishrat's alleged terrorist links. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya will raise the matter in Lok Sabha, while another BJP member will bring it up in the Rajya Sabha.
During the parliamentary paryt meeting, Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu articulated the party's position on different matters.
Jaitley briefed MPs on Ishrat issue. “This was the first time that a Home Minister was trying to prove a terrorist as a nationalist. The Home Minister appeared to be working with LeT," Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said quoting Jaitley. He added that it was done to politically finish Modi, the then Gujarat Chief Minister, and Amit Shah, then a minister in the state government. BJP has also issued a whip asking all its members to be present in both the houses.
